The Hitchikers Guide to Playa Sud

Geographically, politically, sociologically, and linguistically Miami Beach bears little relation to Miami. It is a barrier island 10 miles long and about 1 mile wide, separated from the mainland of the Florida peninsula by Biscayne Bay. A ~$35 taxi will to get you there from Miami International Airport, but it's cheaper than parking - if you can find a space. The area is called South Beach (SoBe), a tourist destination of some renound for adults interested in wining, dining, dancing, and the beach. As such, the area is surrounded by hotels, bars, clubs, restaurants, and shops. Friday and Saturday will be noisy and crowded with the young and hip, most of them caught in gridlock looking in vain for parking spaces.

The Beach: The lifeguard stations are equipped with flags: red means possible rip currents. Purple means dangerous marine life like stinging jellyfish. Water termperature will be roughly 74°F/23°C (only tourists enter the waters when it is this cold). Don't go on the beach at night by yourself.
