User Community Workgroup Overview

The main goal of the Ultralight user group is to establish a community of early adopters and users. They will come first from within Ultralight, and can be considered as expert users, as often they will have roles overlapping to some extent with the HEP application services group. Later, with the maturing of the Ultralight services and software, the community will grow to include outside users. This community will use the system being developed e.g. will start actual physics analysis efforts exploiting the test-bed, and provide a user perspective on the problems being solved.

Workplan

There are a number of activities underway within the UltraLight user community group. Please see the following for more details:

Work on CMS analysis using fully simulated and reconstructed events
Work on visualization of high-energy events at all stages of the simulation and reconstruction
Preparation for SuperComputing 2005 (SC05) (thru mid-November 2005)
Research on large scale replication of datasets with bbcp and gridftp including optimization and tuning studies of kernels and disk read/writes
Development of collaborative community tools:
- Collaborative Development Shell - CODESH: an intelligent development shell for seamlessly logging, exchanging and reproducing results and the methods used in obtaining them
- Collaborative Analysis Versioning Environment System - CAVES: a ROOT client providing virtual logbook capabilities
